KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Dr. Oscar Mauricio Caicedo Rendon

University of Cauca, Colômbia

Keynote 1

Title:
Walking on AI/ML for networking

Abstract:
The use of AI/ML is a rapidly growing phenomenon penetrating almost every networking area and, in general, people daily life. However, the practical AI/ML deployment for networking is only in its infancy. Many areas are still in the beginning stage from an AI/ML perspective and, so, much work must be performed for achieving knowledge/cognitive/intelligence-based networks. This keynote explores current and previous work developed to accomplish these networks through usage cases (probing monitoring, heavy-hitters handling, routing, and scaling) and raises challenges to overcome in the way of AI/ML on networking.

Short-bio:
Oscar Mauricio Caicedo Rendon received his bachelor’s degree in telecommunications and the master’s degree in telematics from the University of Cauca (Unicauca) in 2006 and 2001, respectively. He received his Ph.D. degree in computer science from the Institute of Informatics, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil, in 2015. He is currently a Full Professor with the Telematics Department, Unicauca. He is a member of the Telematics Engineering Group, Unicauca. He has published in prominent journals, such as Communications Magazine, Computer Networks, Computer Communications, JISA, and IEEE Access, as well as in relevant conferences, such as the IEEE Globecom, IEEE ICC, IEEE AINA, IEEE COMPSAC, IEEE CNSM, and IEEE ISCC. In recent years, he was a recipient of an IETF Fellowship and a Traveler Grant from ACM SIGCOMM. His research is focused on the field of network management, with emphasis on the management based on Artificial Intelligence (Automated Planning and Machine Learning), Web technologies, and Mashups. Furthermore, he has experience with network measurement and management, 5G and network slicing, situation management, software defined networking, network virtualization, service-oriented architecture, resource-oriented architecture, web services, wireless and mobile solutions, service delivery platforms, and value-added services.

Title:
Fog Computing and Industrial Internet of Things for Industry 4.0

Abstract:
Industry 4.0 focuses on the end-to-end digitization of all physical assets and integration into digital ecosystems with value chain partners. Generating, analyzing and communicating data seamlessly underpins the gains promised by Industry 4.0. The Internet of Things (IoT) has been embraced by industry, resulting in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), a new communication paradigm that combines information and technologies to enable real-time monitoring and provide controlling for industrial domains. Moreover, the industrial process requires most of the tasks to be performed locally because of strict latency requirements. In the industrial context, Fog computing can provide local processing support with acceptable latency. In this talk, we will discuss the needs of communications and data processing of industry 4.0 with emphasis in the role of fog computing in smart manufacturing.

Short-bio:
Nelson Fonseca received his Electrical Engineer (1984) and MSc in Computer Science (1987) degrees from The Pontificial Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the MSc (1993) and Ph.D. (1994) degrees in Computer Engineering from The University of Southern California. He is a Full Professor at Institute of Computing of The State University of Campinas, Campinas – Brazil. Currently, he serves as Vice President Technical and Educational activities for the IEEE Communications Society. He also served as VP Publications, Director for Conference Development, Vice President for Member Relations. He served as IEEE ComSoc Director for Latin America (2008-2009), Director for On-Line Services (2002-2003). He is past EiC of the IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials and is a Senior Editor for the IEEE Communications Magazine.
